“Half Boyfriend,” is a
novel written by Judy Balan and Kishore Manohar. It is a parody of the novel of
Half Girlfriend of Chetan Bahagat.
Manav Jha meets Rhea
Somany in City College. He falls in love with her. He decides to marry her. She
runs away as fast as possible. He, however, has recently read a similar
sounding book that tells him that this is all part of the game. Emboldened, he
doesn’t give up. She doesn’t give up either. A chase that takes them across the
world ensues….
What happens at the end?
Will blind stalker love prevail? Will the name dropping of some of the biggest
people in the world not impact sales? Only time will tell.
Manav meets Rhea and falls
in love with her. Actually, he doesn’t fall in love with her. He decides
immediately that he has found the next queen for his little kingdom. Openly, he starts stalking Rhea in attempt to
get her, woo her and then as clichéd novels end, sleep with her into a
marriage.
In between this parody,
readers come across series of pointless events and unbelievable coincidences
that make Mr. Bhagat what he is today. Readers see Rhea trying to get rid of
Manav and her psychopathic behaviour, readers will see her “lost cause”
weakness taking over her brain sometimes, and readers will meet a “Queen
Villain” who doesn’t want her son to replace her place in the kingdom.
The characters are ok. I
only like the character of Manav Jha who is possessive, obsessed and sometimes
humor. Rhea is average. Manav Jha’s friends are humor and are totally filmy. Readers
know the story. They know the story which may bore the readers. They might like
the story and may not like the story. If I have to rate the book, I could rate
2/5.
