SORRY WRONG NUMEBR- A LOVE STORY

“Hello,” said a male voice.
“Hello,” said a female voice.
“Can I talk to Vikram Shrestha?”
“Sorry, wrong number.”
“Sorry.”

And she kept the receiver down. The next day, this continued.
“Hello,” said a male voice.
“Hello,” said a female voice.
“Can I talk to Vikram Shrestha?”
“Sorry, wrong number.”
“Sorry.”

After three weeks, she was sitting near to the phone. She was waiting for the wrong number. The clock showed the time of 11:30 am. He used to call at this time but he didn’t call. But after two minutes, the phone rang and immediately, she picked up the phone.
“Hello,” she said.
“Hello,” he said.

Both remained silent. She was feeling shy. He too was feeling shy. Finally, both spoke at the same time and said, “How are you?” And both smiled.
“I am good and you,” she said.
“Me too good,” he said. “Can I know your name?”
“Kusum Adhikari,” she said. “And yours?”
“Simrik Shrestha. I am pursing my Master’s Degree in English Literature from Tribhuvan University.  It’s in the last year. I do write short stories and articles in newspapers.”

“I am also from Tribhuvan University. I am pursuing Bachleor’s Degree in Nepali literature and I am also in final year.”

Both were happy and Kusum said, “Can I know who Vikram Shrestha is?”
“He is my friend.”
“Can I ask you one more question?”
“Sure.”
“Can we meet?”
“Sure, but after two weeks.”
“But why after two weeks?”
“ I will be free after two weeks.”
“Sure.”
“Bye.”
“Bye.”

Wrong number became habitual for them. They were enjoying their company. In other words, these three weeks, there were in love with each other but couldn’t express their feelings.

Kusum Adhikari was lucky to get phone at her home because few people could get landline phones.  All of her friends were jealous of her because she has a phone. Her father was a tourist guide so, he brought a landline phone.

It was 11th August, 1992. Today was Kusum’s birthday. After the college, she went in the locker room. When she opened the locker room, she found the gifts. One gift was teddy bear and another gift was packed. More than that, there was a letter. She was curious to see the gifts and rushed to the room.

When she reached the room, she opens the packed gift. The gift was the book of Sidney Sheldon which was her favourite writer. She was happy to get the book. Furthermore, she was curious to read the letter which mentioned:-

He was sitting at the corner so that nobody can see him and her. He looked at the time. It was 12:10 pm. He was very curious to meet her. But at 12:20 pm, he saw one girl with the teddy bear. She was looking here and there. He went near to her and said, “Kusum Adhikari?” And he showed aero plane and she said, “Simrik Shrestha.”

And both went to the corner side.  Both were feeling nervous as well as both were meeting with each other for the first time as face to face. Moreover, Kusum was feeling shy.

“How was your class today?” Simrik said.
“Good and yours?” Kusum said and she was feeling shy.
“You look beautiful in pink Kurta Salwar.”
“Thanks and even you are looking nice in white shirt.”
“Thanks.” And both smiled.
“What do you want to have?” said Simrik.
“A cup of coffee and veg. mo:mo.”
“Are you vegetarian?”
“Yes.”
“I am too vegetarian.”

After this, they met regularly. They were in love deeply. They were lost in their own world. More than that, whenever, Kusum used to listen love songs, she used to dance and remember Simrik.

After one year….
They both completed their education. Simrik started doing thesis and was searching job. In other hand, Kusum joined Master’s Degree and she too searching job. Finally, she got job in the primary school. He too got the job in the school for the English Teacher. Both were very happy for each other.

One fine morning, Kusum was making her bed and her father came to her and said, “Kusum, I wanted to tell you something.”
“Yes, baba.” And both sat on the bed.
“You have completed your Bachelor’s Degree and doing job. Now, it’s time for the marriage. I think its right time to settle down.”

She remained silent. She didn’t know what to say. She was feeling scared and nervous, while her baba was observing her.

“What happened chhori? Did I say anything wrong? Please, let me know why are so silent?”
“Baba, actually……” She was feeling nervous.
“Yes, chhori, actually what?”

She told everything to him. When she told everything to him, at the beginning, he was shocked. He was speechless for the moment. He didn’t know to react but Kusum convinced him to meet him. And met him and was glad to meet him. He was convinced by Simrik and his manner impressed Kusum’s father. At the beginning, Kusum’s father had many thoughts like caste, first fell in love with voice and met later. The love started from the wrong number but when he decided to meet Simrik, he was influence by his words and manners.

It was February 1993, they got married and were happy. More than that, both the family members were happy but kept the marriage as a private way as both Kusum and Simrik wanted to keep it private and only few people were invited.
