AKSHAY KUMAR
When he began his acting career in the 1990s,
he primarily starred in action films and was known for his appearances in films
of the Khiladi series as well as other action films such
as Mohra (1994), Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), Sapoot (1996)
and Angaaray (1998). Later, Kumar also gained fame for his
drama, romantic and comic roles. He earned critical acclaim for his portrayal
of a hysterical professor in Sangharsh (1999) and a criminal
in Jaanwar (1999). His performances in romantic films
like Dhadkan (2000), Andaaz (2003) and Namastey
London (2007); drama films like Waqt (2005) and Bhool
Bhulaiyaa (2007); comedy films like Hera Pheri (2000), Mujhse
Shaadi Karogi (2004), Garam Masala (2005), Bhagam
Bhag (2006) and Singh Is Kinng (2008) were all well
received. In 2007, he starred in four consecutive commercially successful
films. Kumar hit a rough patch from 2009 to 2011. He came back with two
successes, Housefull 2 and Rowdy Rathore both in 2012. His other films
like OMG (2012), Special 26 (2012), Holiday (2014)
and Gabbar Is Back (2015) were highly successful critically
and commercially. From January 2016 to August 2017, he came with successful
movies like Airlift (2016), Housefull 3 (2016), Rustom (2016), Jolly
LLB 2 (2017) and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017).
He has experimented with his roles. He has
done action, romantic and comedy. At the beginning of his career, I didn’t like
him that much. I felt like why he came into the movies sector but after
watching movies like Ajnabee and Hera Pheri, I started to like his acting. More
than that, after watching movies like Namastey London, Bhagam Bhag and Singh
Is Kinng, I became to like his acting more. He can portray any
character.
CONCLUSION
Same as he was an actor in the 2000–2010
phase. In the ’90s there was so much repetitive action-based performance except
some movies like Sangharsh, Yeh Dillagi, Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi, Nazar Ke samne
and some others. Jaanwar was also a good performance. Even in many action films,
his performance was very nice eg. Mohra, Angaaray, Main Khiladi Tu Anari,
Khiladi and few others. But many movies were just repetitive which down rated
him as an actor. Many times he was just taken in films for doing action and
stunts. After Hera Pheri he started more diverse roles like Aankhen, Andaaz,
Ajnabee, and Aitraaz. But Akshay Kumar is a very much underrated actor.
Emotional scenes and tragic roles get so many accolades but comedy doesn’t. The
comedy movies of his were very difficult to do as an actor Eg. Garam Masala,
Bhagam Bhag, Phir Hera Pheri, Deewane Huye Paagal, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, and
Awaara Paagal Deewana. People find them repetitive but it's very difficult to
give that comic timing and expression. He also gave a very good performance in
Khakee which didn’t get much attention that it deserved. Unfortunately, comedy
doesn’t get recognition here for an actor. People bash the logic behind those
movies but if you focus on actors and acting part its as tuff for them as to
give a tragic performance. Akshay Kumar also did a very nice romantic role in
Namastey London and Humko Deewana Kar Gaye. Then his performance in Bhool
Bhulaiya was also clapped worthy. 8 x 10 Tasveer was also a nice different
performance given which remains unrecognized. De dana dan and Khatta Meetha
again underrated performance and underrated movies which many many people agree
with. Action Replayy as a movie was a dud but Akshay’s performance was very
nice. His acting in Patiala House was over the top again still not recognized.
Akshay was many times bad at choosing scripts that’s why many times his good
performances were overshadowed by such mistakes.
Coming to the last 5 years, I would say his movies
have improved and his performances. His performance in Special 26, Airlift or
Baby was equally good as his some performances in the last decade. All of them
remained unrecognized again. Houseful 3 as a movie was below average but
Akshay’s role was quite difficult. Brothers movie wasn’t entertaining but
acting-wise Akki nailed it. Padman was the bravest role and a challenging one
which no other actor would have dared to attempt even, he just cracked it.
Jolly LLB2 and Toilet Ek Prem Katha watch out for serious scenes and those
performances are amazing. I forgot Holiday and OMG: Oh My God which were also
top-class performances.
