SUBIN BHATTARAI
Subin Bhattarai (born
5 November 1982) is a Nepali Author and Columnist. Summer Love is the first novel that I read of his. After reading this
novel, I became his fan. Although he had the writing style similar to Chetan
Bhagat, the story connects with the readers. Summer Love plot concerns about the college students at the Central
Department of Environmental Science (CDES) at Tribhuwan University falling in
love. The concept was no so new but it holds to the end. The novel won’t bore the
reader. The language is very simple not that complex. As simple as the language
is, the story is also simple. We don’t need to spend lots of time for thinking.
It’s a very simple story not that complex. Youth might like it because of its
simple story and is targeted to the youth. The language used in this
novel is the language used by today’s youth. After starting, the reader doesn’t
want to leave the novel up to the end.
Moreover,
the ending made me very curious that what will happen after that incident. The
ending is an open ending which made a think a lot and had many questions. The
ending made me think why the writer didn’t write in a different way. If he had
made more suspense and mystery than it could be more fun to read. Furthermore,
what I felt after reading the novel is whether the story is based on true or
not. The characters were touched till the end.
Even
when I completed reading the novel, I felt like I am watching the film. The
male character Atit Sharma made
me remember Raj Ballav
Koirala, a Nepali film actor and felt he is playing the character.
A
year later a sequel titled Saaya was
released in September 2014, which concerns how the misunderstanding in Summer Love cleared and how they convince
their family. Furthermore, it is based on the point of view of the narrator,
Atit, Saya and Susmita. According to the story, the narrator takes the responsibility
to mend the things between Atit and Saya. To be honest, I didn’t like the sequel
as the first one. I had a great expectation but it failed my impression. The
story goes round and round which made me bored. There was no newness in the subject.
The sequel seemed that he was focused to write the second part. I was not able
to connect with the story.
Monsoon, the
next novel of Subin Bhattarai is average. The story
is simple with a simple language. More than that, the story is like watching the
movie. Although the story is a kind of similar to his previous book with an open
ending, I loved the characters of the novel. Not only this, the friendship
between Rameshwor, Sundar and Shuban is natural. The argument, ego and fight
between them can be relevant to nowadays friendship. Falling in love with the same
girl, getting rejection with the same girl and with the ego not speaking with
best friends is so natural and has been presented well.
The story is a simple love story. It makes curiosity to the
readers what will happen next. Why Monsoon was behaving like that? Why she
hates Shuban and loves him at the same time? This makes curiosity. More than
that, will Shuban still love her by knowing the behavior of her?
I really love the character of Rameshwor and Sundar. They are
humor and make the readers laugh. Shuban’s character shows the craziness and
nowadays youth character. He cannot get angry for a long time with Monsoon. He
loves her and wants to be with her all the time. At the same time, with her
behavior, he gets tried too sometimes. On the other hand, Monsoon is moody. She
is a confused character and a frustrated character. At the same time, she can
be happy and sad too. Sometimes, a reader hates her for her behavior: why was
she doing like that? Why didn’t she accept Shuban’s love who was there whenever
she needed it?
Priya Surfi is another novel of his. After Summer
Love, this is the novel that I loved his. The novel is a motivational story
about sisters. Considering the rise in suicide rates, the author tries to
address issues related to suicide. Subin Bhattarai hoped to enlighten the
youths about the true aspects of living. Story development is amazing. This book really touched my
heart. It made
me so emotional. It gave the feel like once you hit the rock bottom of your
life, the only thing you can do is rise and shine bright. I loved the sisters’
relationship most. How Sada's outlook about her family and society, about love
changed. Her struggles to understand things are really heartfelt.
Subin Bhattarai is one of the finest writers.
Although he has written a light novel, he has the capacity to write the serious
one. After reading Summer Love, Saya, and
Monsoon Love, I thought he can only write light stories only but he proved me
wrong with Priya Surfi. He can really
write serious stories too. Moreover, he has the capacity for good writing. He
knows his audience and takes his audiences to comment seriously.
Not only his books, I love his articles in the newspapers. He writes that is related to youth and shares his personal experiences. Furthemore, in personal level, he is down to earth and listens to his audiences carefully and loves to interact with his fans.
