GET THE PAIN FROM MUGLAN

On February 2013, I brought a named “Muglan” written by TU Professor, Govinda Raj Bhattarai. It has been translated in English by Lekhnath S Pathak who is lecturer at Central Department of Linguistics, Tribhuvan University (TU).

I read the book after only few weeks later as I was busy reading other books. There are lots of things to be told about the book because it’s the interesting one. First let me start with the summary of the story.

Sutar and Thule are the main characters of the book. Sutar and Thule are from the poor background. When there is financial crisis most of the people used to go to Muglan to earn money. So, Sutar and Thule goes to Muglan. When they travel for the Muglan, they face many problems, before they reached Muglan and after they reached Muglan. When they are in Muglan, their family faces many problems. 

Sutar and Thule subsequently tricked into working for a local contractor, believing that he will get them enlisted in the British Army. They find themselves as members of a road gang that is building a road from Paro in Western Bhutan over the mountains to Haaj there they work for some two years in appalling conditions on very little pay before finally running away.

After reading the book, the readers get touch with the book. They will know how much pain people suffer in their life. Even they shall know the value of money, time and especially family.

While reading the book, readers get close with the characters and feel like their own pain.The story is so painful that you cannot hold crying. The character Thule and Sutar force people to cry and laugh.  In some way they make you laugh and cry.

Next thing is that writer Govinda Raj Bhattarai wrote the novel when he was just 21. At that time he didn’t know about the information about Muglan and he might not know about the situation there. But the way he has just written it makes that he has reached there and did lots of research. In age of 21, I couldn’t have written like this type of story. I feel guilty for that.

Although, I haven’t read the original one which is written in Nepali version but I read the translation version. So, it’s better not to compare it with Nepali version. But I must say that the English is too good that one can imagine Govinda Raj Bhattarai has written well in Nepali.But the translator Lekhnath S Pathak has given his best level to do the translation version. 

What made me the impression is that Lekhnath S Pathak has honestly told how difficult is to explain Nepali words and he had looked from many angles for the translations. He has edited many times and did many researches.

So, one must read the book to know how much people  suffer and get pain for the survival and for survival how they get problems.
