Let Her Fly is an autobiography of Ziauddin Yousafzai and the co-author of the book is Louise Carpenter. The book talks about the equality and education. For over twenty years, Ziauddin Yousafzai has been fighting go equality- first for Malala,  his daughter- and then for all girls throughout the world. Although born in the conservative family, he believes to have equality for both sons and daughter.

In this book, Ziauddin describes his childhood, family as well as his children and wife. Furthermore, he believed in the education and wanted his children to be educated especially Malala. He believed that female education is the most. He was happy and proud when Malala was born. He gave all the freedom to his daughter and was proud of her. He believed that all women and men are equal, all have freedom of speech. Moreover, he was determined to raise a family in which all three children saw no preference between gender. He also wanted a family that believed in freedom of expression. He had learned from his father not to be demanding of a child who had something to express, whatever it was, from either their mind or their heart.

Not only this, he describes about the Taliban. The violent Talibanization of the Swat Valley began in 2007, and in late December 2008 the Taliban leader,  Maulana Fazlullah broadcast on Mullah FM, the movement’s radio station, that from January 15, 2009, no girls would be allowed to go to school. Teachers started to fall away in fear.  He too had fear of Malala education and other girls education.

He also mentioned about the attack of Malala and how life was changed. How she became stronger and how he supported Malala. He let her express her opinion which made Malala stronger. The best part is that both believed to change the world through education. They both wanted equality and female education. Also, they believed that change comes from home.In conclusion, I loved the book. The duo of father and daughter was in different level.  I could refer this book to be read by the people. In addition, there were beautiful quotes and words that I liked:

  • I believe that all children learn from what we do, not from what we teach.
  •   Love is freedom. Love is respect. Love is equality. Love is justice. Love your wife and be loved by her and your children will learn from that.
  •   Shame is not only acting in a bad way. It can be acting in an independent way. If a girl fails in love with a boy not chosen by her parents and meets him unchaperoned, this is considered “shame.”
