MONSOON- A WORTH TO READ

After the huge success of short stories collection “Katha Ki Patra,” two novels “Summer Love” and its sequel “Saaya,” Subin Bhattarai came with the new novel “Monsoon.”

The story starts with the marriage of Rameshwor. His marriage happens suddenly. After the break up with his girlfriend, within a week, his family searches a girl and he gets married.  Interestingly, before marriage, he fell in love with a girl. After chatting in the Facebook, he proposes her but her family disagrees and to show her, he gets married.

In his marriage, his two best friends Sundar and Shuban starts to look at the girls, Meanwhile, while in the food line, Shuban sees  a simple girl who has worn a simple sari without any jewellery. She looks like a teacher.

On the marriage, he is only focus on that girl and follows her but later, he doesn’t see her. He wants to talk with her but couldn’t get the opportunity. He hopes the next day, in the party, they shall meet. Luckily, the next day, she arrives in the party. He frequently sees her. 

Unfortunately, his friend Sundar was also focusing on her and Shuban doesn’t like it. After few minutes, she comes near to him and says, “Where are you from?”

“Kathmandu.”

“I didn’t ask the place. I said from which side are you from: bride or bridegroom?”

“From bridegroom side.”

“Do you know me?”

“Yes?” He felt nervous.

“Do you know me?”

“No.”

After this conversation, they started more conversation. When he asked for name, he didn’t tell her name. Although, she didn’t her name, he told his name and left the place. On the way, he felt guilty for not knowing the name of her. He felt he could have searched in virtual.

On the same day, she had sent him the friend request on the Facebook. Her name was Monsoon and he accepted the friend request. After this, they started chatting. He had started falling in love with her. But the problem with her was that she was moody. When she likes to chat, she used to chat, when not interested, she used to ignore. Moreover, most of the time, when she didn’t receive the phone, he used to get angry.

CONCLUSION

The story is simple with a simple language. More than that, the story is like watching movie. Not only this, the friendship between Rameshwor, Sundar and Shuban is natural. The argument, ego and fight between them can be relevant to nowadays friendship. Falling in love with same girl, getting rejection with same girl and with the ego not speaking with best friends is so natural and has been presented well.

The story is simple love story. It makes curiosity to the readers that what will happen next. Why Monsoon was behaving like that? Why she hates Shuban and loves him the same time? This makes curiosity. More than that, will Shuban still love her by knowing the behavior of her?

I really love the character of Rameshwor and Sundar. They are humor and make the readers laugh. Shuban’s character shows the craziness and nowadays youth character. He cannot get angry for long time with Monsoon. He loves her and wants to be with her all the time. At the same time, with her behavior, he gets tried too sometimes. On the other hand, Monsoon is moody. She is confused character and frustrated character. At the same time, she can be happy and sad too. Sometimes, a reader hates her for her behavior: why was she doing like that? Why didn’t accept Shuban’s love who was there whenever she needed? In conclusion, one must read the book because of story, language and characters.
