LOTS OF CONFUSION

Making historical movies are difficult. It needs lot of time, place, dress, languages and good character. If these are done properly, the movie becomes excellent but these things falls down, the movie also falls down. This has happen to the latest movie "Seto Bagh."

"Seto Bagh" is an iconic and notable novel of  Late Diamond Shumsher Rana and the movie is directed by Nir Shah. The movie was released on Chaitra 27, 2071 B.S. [April 10, 2015].

The story is about Jung Bahadur Rana who saw a white tiger on one of his hunting trips in the Tarai. But a white tiger has never found in the Nepali forests and  being illusion that Jung Bahadur. When he told about White Tiger, he was an old man by then, and his eyes were not the same. Moreover, the story focuses on Jagat Jung-the eldest son of Jung Bahadur-and his love affair with the King's daughter, the side plot reveals the battle for succession between Jung Bahadur 's sons and his brothers.

But in the movie, the story didn't go as systematically and smoothly. After watching movie, audience will feel confused what the story is about. Moreover, the movie is not like watching movie but it is like watching documentary because the movie have mentioned about 30 days.

Although, I have read the novel, I didn't get the movie because I was too confused about the story.  After watching the movie, what I felt is what exactly "Seto Bagh" means and what is the connection of "Seto Bagh" with the events. There is no clear about it. Jung Bahadur sees the white tiger but what does that mean , nobody understands it.

If we see the acting skills of the actors, Raja Ram Paudel and Rabi Giri acting are superb. SB Rana who played a lot of Jung Bahadur Rana, is watchable and the role of Jagat Rana (son of Jung Bahadur) is also not bad. Remaining actors are ok.

The best aspects of the movie are cinematography and sound effects. I must appreciate the cinematographer because he has done excellent job for capturing beautiful visuals and pictures. On the other hand, Nir Shah had tried his best to do justice for the movie but somehow he failed. He has done screenplay also of the movie. While doing screenplay, he forgot about the languages. The languages are not of Rana Regime. The languages are mostly of today's one besides few of them.

Nir Shah has good ability of directing the films as he has proved himself in the movies like "Rajamati," "Basudev,"and "Basanti." Shah could have done much better. Due to lots of confusion, audiences will not be able to understand the movie. Besides, the audiences will be more confused if they haven't read the novel.

What I want to suggest the people is to read the novel and watch the movie. I want people at least to watch the movie and analysis the movie.
