ANAND-INDELIBLE MARK ON INDIAN CINEMA
"Anand" (1971) is a timeless Bollywood classic directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The film beautifully captures the essence of life, friendship, and the inevitable reality of mortality. This movie is one of my favourite movies and the reasons behind are:
PLOT
"Anand"
revolves around the lives of two central characters - Anand Saigal (played by
Rajesh Khanna) and Dr. Bhaskar (played by Amitabh Bachchan). Anand, a
terminally ill cancer patient, enters the life of Dr. Bhaskar, a somber and
serious man. Despite his illness, Anand is full of life, charm, and a zest for
living every moment to the fullest. The film explores the deep friendship that
develops between these two contrasting characters and how they impact the lives
of those around them.
PERFORMANCES
Rajesh Khanna delivers a memorable performance as Anand, bringing infectious energy and warmth to the character. His portrayal is one of the highlights of the film. Amitabh Bachchan, in one of his early roles, shines as the stoic and reserved Dr. Bhaskar. The chemistry between the two actors is remarkable and contributes significantly to the film's emotional impact.
DIRECTIONAND WRITING
Hrishikesh Mukherjee's direction is sensitive and masterful. He weaves a heartwarming narrative that seamlessly blends humor, emotion, and drama. The screenplay, written by Gulzar, is poignant and thought-provoking. The dialogues are memorable and have become iconic over the years.
MUSIC
The music of "Anand" composed by Salil Chowdhury is soulful and timeless. Songs like "Zindagi Kaisi Hai Paheli" and "Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye" are not only melodious but also perfectly complement the film's themes.
EMOTIONAL
IMPACT
"Anand" is known for its emotional depth and the way it addresses the inevitability of death with grace and humor. The film takes the audience on a rollercoaster of emotions, making them laugh and cry in equal measure. The climax is particularly poignant and has left a lasting impression on viewers.
LEGANCY
Decades after its release, "Anand" remains a classic and is often considered one of the best Bollywood films ever made. It has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema and is celebrated for its timeless storytelling and exceptional performances.
